This cabinet is almost ready for fitting, it has been a lot of fun to design and make. The clients are developing a small outbuilding which had to be multi-use. The idea was to make the bed hide away completely; making it look as if there is simply wall cladding with a floating shelf when the bed is stored away. When the bed is pulled down; the long floating shelf provides the leg support. I think this provides some intrigue to the piece. The lines of the birch plywood slats, with 5mm shadow gaps are carried on to the flanking floating shelves to the right and mirrored door to the left. The lines this creates really gives it a crisp and clean look.
This piece of furniture really shows how some furniture can become more than just functional necessity and add some enjoyment to living in our homes.
